liberal thoughts

My mother-in-law is convinced my brain is being permanently damaged by the left leaning NPR, Seattle Times and New York Times. She thinks I should be reading an unbiased, neutral news source like USA Today or something. I told her to find any sort of books for me to read and I'll read them. No doubt I am swayed by what I read/hear. What if I impose a test on myself and only listened to Rush Limbaugh for say 30 days? I certainly would be more popular at family holiday events.

Hey, and Wes had a great comment (very left leaning) "whatever happened to Separation of Corporation and State?" That is the most brilliant thing I've heard him say. Let's ask George W.

My parents idea of "unbiased" news coverage is Christian radio news at a high volume. Nothing like hearing someone yell about the Liberal Media and Damnation at 6:30 in the morning.

Speaking of Rush Limbaugh...did you hear he recently "resigned" from being an ESPN football commentator? Apparently he said some really stupid stuff about a black quarterback.

what's the christian radio station your parents listen to? I will add it to my new stations to listen to during my self imposed conservative media month. I promise not to blare it though. My dad would blast KPLU every Saturday morning next to my bedroom wall so I can relate.

For an econ class in grad school, our professor made us take the opposite view we held politically for a debate project. My team had to take the pro side for the balanced budget ammendment (back in '95). I hated the idea of arbitrary spending limits. I figured it would hurt the poor the most. But in doing research on how to defend the ammendment, my team uncovered that corporate tax rates have fallen from about 40% back in 1943 to about 11%. 11%? I sure don't pay taxes of 11%! Corporations should pay their fare share too (they still don't). Also, 64% of all gov't spending is spent automatically, without any vote (social secruity, medicare, food stamps, interest on the debt). That's NO public discussion. Those programs are as bloated as others. So, I actually started to believe that maybe the balanced budget ammendent (while harsh in some cases) would probably be a good thing overall. Here's my speech if you're interested :-)

Other view points are a good thing. Except for listening to Rush. Bozo. ;-)

This happened to Becca as well while she was in grad school. She had to research home schooling and went into it thinking that home school kids are deprived of a normal life and must turn out to be social misfits she actually became a proponent of homeschooling.

So then it's a plan to be a plan - find some new news sources for a 30 day period. Suggestions welcomed.

I had to look this up, as I had blocked it out so well. It's KCIS, 630 AM.

why are conservative radio stations on AM? No wonder I never find them. Back in my maverick driving days AM was all I had and I never ran across those stations then either.

Here's another idea -- let's start a religious liberal radio station. I think Jesus was really a liberal anyway -- look at who he was hanging out with, definitely not uptight conservatives. Do you think we could get a spot on the FM dial?

Only problem is...neither of us are terribly religious. You could through a little Lutheranism in there, but all I have to offer is my repressed fundamentalist upbringing. But then again theirs always the Church of Cultural Experiences. Speaking of, we haven't had a service in a while...

But yes, there really should be a liberal religious/Christian station. I bet lots of people would listen to it (not including me).

Like my use of "through" in that last comment? Can I still blame jet lag?

Make it your guiding principle to do your best for others and to be trustworthy in what you say. Do not accept as friend anyone who is not as good as you. When you make a mistake do not be afraid of mending your ways.
