Happy Belated Easter

Britta almost made it through church services two weeks in a row without a peep. This week she did a few "Hallelujahs" right during the sermon. I don't think she knows she is a Lutheran and you just don't do that in a Lutheran church.

Times are a changing at the Lutheran church. The pastor used powerpoint slides during his sermon and then played a gospel song on the harmonica. Pastor Seymour was quite fashionable in a pair of white loafers. Sunday school and the nursery have made vast improvements too since my early church going days. There are now snacks at church! And Sunday school consists of "stations" that the kids rotate through. I know this is probably the most blasphemous of all, but now you can clap in church when the kids sing. What is happening here?

Which reminds me.... last week Karsten was slotted to sing a song with the rest of the Sunday School during the Palm Sunday service. The whole family came to watch, including Grandma who has congestive heart failure. All the kids marched to the front of the church. The music started playing. No Karsten. Where was he? I ran out to the back of the church and asked everyone "have you seen Karsten?" No, no one had seen him. I went upstairs and checked for him in the nursery and Sunday School rooms. I checked the bathroom. I ran downstairs again hoping to see him. No Karsten. The Sunday School teacher asked if I checked the (unfenced) parking lot where the slide is... No Karsten. I walked past the only room in the whole church that I hadn't checked. There he was watching a mouse video with two older boys. I almost had congestive heart failure too. It is a pretty scary feeling when you can't find your kid.
