On Saturday night we went to a wedding reception. Karsten was drawn to the d.j. table like a bug to light.

After the d.j. gave a toast a couple sang duet for the bride and groom. Jokingly the d.j. said, "anyone else want to sing a song?" Karsten raised his hand. Later I spied Karsten lurking near the d.j. table. The d.j. came on the mic and said, "here's a 4 year old boy who wants to sing Scooby Doo." He told Karsten he could sing happy birthday when they sang to a couple of the guests. The d.j. forgot to ask Karsten back up to the stage, but Karsten didn't forget. After we had some cake I told Karsten it was time to go. He said, "I need to sing my song first." A few minutes later I saw him creeping toward the d.j. table again. I thought it was time to run some interference so I started to walk up there but the d.j. saw me and identified me as his mom I split. Karsten was on his own.

The d.j. had handed Karsten the mic but he couldn't get it turned on. Andy saw what was happening and grabbed Britta (poor Britta being dragged into the spotlight) and went up there to help him with the mic.

Once it was on Karsten sang the Scooby Doo theme song for the wedding crowd. Everyone gave him a round of applause as he left the stage.

Later that night as I was tucking Karsten into bed I told him, "you are very special. Not many people would want to sing on stage." He shrugged off my compliment and told me "I forgot to say 'thank you, thank you very much. And it needed to be darker in there". I'm guessing he wanted a brighter spotlight and with an attitude like this at age four, I'm sure it won't be long before he gets one.

Thanks for the egg, Karsten! I am sorry I was unable to be there for the egg dying (coloring type dying). Love, Grandma Diane
