Spiky hair and a $14 balloon
I took both the kids in for hair cuts today. Karsten went first. The hairdresser defered to me, the mommy with "how would you like me to cut it?" Karsten piped up, "I want it spiky." I hadn't expected him to have an opinion about his hair but I should have known, this is one opinated kid. Did I want him to have spiky hair? Is this just a prelude to a mohawk? Karsten left Great Clips with bad spiky hair and a smile.
Britta was up next. She hadn't had her haircut since the carcinogenic inhaling pregnant beautician cut her curls in Amsterdam. She sat on my lap as still as a statue. The hair dresser gave Britta a helium balloon then sprayed the ends of her hair with two squirts of water, took one snip to the back of her hair and one snip to the front. Done. Fourteen dollars please. I had conveniently forgotten my wallet at home so my mom was up front and paid the bill before I knew of the extortion.
Oh well, I figure so far I've spent $14 dollars and 12 Euros on her hair in the almost 2 years of her life. I can't complain much but next time my scrapbooking scissors and the tupperware bowl are coming out for the home cut. Pray for Britta. I won't even go into some of the things my mom did to my hair.

Home done haircuts are not a bad thing. Plus, with the early age practice, you could get by for a couple of years while they are in elementary. As for spiky hair, I think that is a good one. I went through the spiky hair while my brother when through the mop top w/ shaved sides. Slaves to fashion that we are.

Come on, Jana! Give your mom a break! My mom did some strange things to my hair as a kid too, and believe me, any mistakes I made with your hair were NOT done on purpose. I hope Britta forgives you some day too!
