Big day

Karsten starts kindergarten tomorrow. It snuck up on me. We landed back in Seattle on Friday afternoon and then spent the weekend playing on the beach. Now all of the sudden kindergarten starts tomorrow. It finally seems real. Yesterday Riess' mom gave me the list of things Karsten needs for school (Andy forgot to go to the orientation while I was gone) so tonight I went out and bought the peechee and notebook he needs for school. And tonight I packed my first snack in the Star Wars lunch pail. I cut slices of bread, cheese and lunch meat into perfect squares so he can put them together faux "Lunchable" style. I threw in a Go-gurt and a chocolate milk. It seemed like a big moment in my Mom Career. My first quasi lunch.

Today was a big day for Britta too. I noticed in Edinburgh that she started acting like she's like one of the big kids. She'll tell me, "I'm not done" when I want her to clean up her toys, or say, "me too!" any time Babu is emphatic about something. But the biggest news is that she was in her first Time Out today. Both kids were riding in the cart at Costco. They were laughing and laughing because Britta would say, "I bite you" to Babu. He thought that was funny until she sunk her chompers right into his stomach. I took her out of the cart and put her in a Time Out in the beverage aisle. When she got back in the cart she had to apologize to her brother. It seemed like she found the whole event quite amusing though. She seemed pleased with herself to finally get treated like Babu -- in trouble and in a Time Out. My fingers are crossed that she won't be attempting to bite Babu or anyone else again.

Remember, a wise mom once said "your kid will bite, or be bitten!"
