Updates
It was a sad weekend for small animals at three tree point this weekend. Andy and I were enjoying a walk on the beach Sunday morning while my parents had the kids. I stepped over something I thought was driftwood covered with sand fleas and seaweed. I realized it probably wasn't driftwood but I didn't want to know so I kept walking. On the way back I stepped over the same thing and this time it registered what it was: the dead body of a baby sea lion. Oh! I really didn't want to know. It was down wind of our house... so obviously it was most likely the same little pup.
And Andy has decided the kitty must go back. All was going well until last night the kitty peed and pooped on our bed again! I'd finallly gotten the comforter all cleaned and back in order when the sh*t went down. Another reason Andy is insisting the cat needs to leave is for Spencer, our godson's sake. Spencer came over on Thursday and had to leave and hit the nebulizer for a few days afterward. For some reason Jack the First didn't seem to bother Spencer but Jack the Second made him very ill. How can we not have our godson come over again? He's one of Karsten's best friends.
I'm still hoping for a miracle.

I've heard unsubstantiated talk that kittens tend to cause allergic reactions more than adults. (All that crazy licking and hormones and such, I suppose.) Don't know if it is true or not, but it might help explain the difference.
Also, a friend with allergies once explained to me that allergies are like a cup. As in, your body can deal with allergens up to a certain level, acting as if everything is fine and honky-dory, but once the allergen cup runneth over... badness. It could be that Jack the First didn't give expose Spencer to enough allergies to cross the threshold.
I think you're doing the right thing giving back the kitten. The long and short of it is that people come first, right? The kitten is young and cute and uber-adoptable right now. It is 100% certain to find a new home.
