The 80s Route, Baby
My eyesight is nice and fuzzy from coming back from a nice little glass of wine on the beach with the neighbors. I could only make it out for one glass but I know that since we're in October these nights around a campfire are numbered and I finaggled my way out for a quick fix.
So here begins my blog post.
Britta is as fascinated by babies as Karsten was by trains. Yes, it is possible. I had to create a new diaper changing song. My "little stinky poo poo"* song I created for Karsten doesn't work for Britta. I re-worked the words a bit so now it sings, "little baby poo poo" and the magic of my diaper changing song has the desired effect. Britta will sit still long enough for me to change her!
So picture this. I don't listen to NPR on the weekends. Britta and I were driving in the car to QFC and the Beastie Boys come on the radio. I'm singing along to "Hey Ladies" while she has her own rendition going in the backseat. I hear her singing, "Hey Babies!" Britta and I shared our first Beastie moment.
After QFC we hop back in the car to pick her brother up from a birthday party. I circled the block a few times so I wouldn't have to sit in the driveway and have all the new kindergarten parents hear me singing "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard.
We pick Karsten up and head for the library. Wow, the radio station is really playing some good songs. I crank it up again. I yell over the stereo to the kids, "YOUR DAD USED TO SING THIS IN HIS BAND!!!" Huh? "YOUR DAD USED TO WALK BY RIC OCASEK'S RECORDING STUDIO ON HIS WAY TO CLASS WHEN HE LIVED IN BOSTON." Huh? Oh well, mommy keeps singing some dumb Cars songs in the car.
Pearl Jam comes on next and the 90s just aren't as good as the 80s.
Don't let mom listen to anything other than NPR.
