Ready. Sit. Read!
Kiddie book club alert! Saw this on Scrum-dilly-do today, clicked into Target's Ready. Sit. Read! site and had an ah-ha moment. Everyone knows how much I love my book club, now it is time to share the fun of a book club with the kids.
From the Ready. Sit. Read! site:
Use the guide as a starting point for hatching ideas tht bring your chosen book to life. Location, games, crafts, snacks: All can be inspired by the book’s subject or characters. If the book is about camping, hold your next meeting in a tent, play flashlight tag and serve s’mores. If the book’s main character is a bunny, make and wear rabbit ears and decorate cookies cut out with an Easter cookie cutter. You and your child(ren) will have a ball just planning the club meeting.
I'm going to try and start one for my kids aged almost 3 and almost 6. If you're interested in having your kids join us let me know. I'm ready to pick a book and have our first meeting!

Famous Person Month
After meeting (read: having my picture taken) with Greg Brady earlier this month I get to add dining with a famous mystery author to my list of Jana's Famous Person Month. My book club invited Ridley Pearson to speak at our book club. We met at Salty's on Alki since in the novel we read a body washes ashore on Alki.
We peppered him with questions regarding the creative and research process; his band, the Rockbottom Remainders and most importantly what are his famous friends really like. He diviludged info on Dave Barry, Stephen King and about how Amy Tan attended his wife's Pampered Chef party. I guess my three years of petitioning to get into this book club paid off.
Next book, Straight Man by Richard Russo. Wonder if Russo will accept our dinner invitation.
