Jack in the box

As I last reported, the cat had peed and pooped on our bed numerous times. Andy's mom was watching the kids on Tuesday and took Britta to the laundry mat where she washed and dried our comforter. Then she hid it in Karsten's room with the door shut so the cat wouldn't have the opportunity to do more damage. How lucky I was feeling at that moment to have such a great mother-in-law and a clean comforter finally.

The clean comforter scenario was short lived. At 8:15pm I took the comforter out of Karsten's room and sat it on our bed. 8:18pm Karsten said, "the cat peed on the bed!" I never even saw the cat in those 3 minutes but the yellow wet spots were proof enough.

Andy snapped. He grabbed the cardboard box Mo had given him to take the cat to our house. He put the cat back in and told the kids to say goodbye. Karsten started crying saying he still wanted Jack to be our pet. Britta kissed Karsten on his cheek, then she kissed Andy and then me. She comforted us all. Andy mellowed for a bit. The cat lasted 48 more hours in our house and then Andy dropped Jack off back at Mo's.

Farewell to Jack the Second. We will miss you -- but not your poop. (See Andy's inspired farewell ode.)

P.S.
If anyone wants to adopt this kitty let me know. I think the problem could be solved before it starts again. We probably should have done some pet introductory steps first before just coming home with a kitty. I swear this is about the nicest kitty ever, and I've known a lot of kitties.

Bills and cat update

World's sweetest kitty is sitting on my lap while I do the evil business of paying the bills. (Ok, actually I haven't started paying bills yet. Had to get tea first.)

Purring kitty is making me sad.

Updates

It was a sad weekend for small animals at three tree point this weekend. Andy and I were enjoying a walk on the beach Sunday morning while my parents had the kids. I stepped over something I thought was driftwood covered with sand fleas and seaweed. I realized it probably wasn't driftwood but I didn't want to know so I kept walking. On the way back I stepped over the same thing and this time it registered what it was: the dead body of a baby sea lion. Oh! I really didn't want to know. It was down wind of our house... so obviously it was most likely the same little pup.

And Andy has decided the kitty must go back. All was going well until last night the kitty peed and pooped on our bed again! I'd finallly gotten the comforter all cleaned and back in order when the sh*t went down. Another reason Andy is insisting the cat needs to leave is for Spencer, our godson's sake. Spencer came over on Thursday and had to leave and hit the nebulizer for a few days afterward. For some reason Jack the First didn't seem to bother Spencer but Jack the Second made him very ill. How can we not have our godson come over again? He's one of Karsten's best friends.

I'm still hoping for a miracle.

My cousin Mo has always been good at manipulating people. I recall her conniving me into cleaning her room as a kid once. So when Mo called and wanted us to check out her batch of kitties she was trying to find homes for I sent Andy with just the kids. I didn't know how strong he would be, but I hoped he would fold under Mo's pressure. When I came home from the gym we had a kitten at our home! I don't know what Mo said to him but it sort of worked. We have a cat on two week trial.

The first day went well. I envisioned this kitty growing old at our house. She cuddles and purrs and lets the kids cart her around. Day 2 presented the first problem. The kitty has been using our bed as a litter box. We're up to three times and now we have sleeping bags on the bed while all of the bedding is being laundered once again. Andy's declared the cat is going back.

The kids have named this little girl kitty Jack, just like our old kitty. Convenient to remember especially because this kitty is all black too.
